look and be in awe

Collection of 19 sites for your design inspiration

Resources on December 14th, 2009 No Comments

Every designer faces a blank page or screen now or then & can’t come up with something spectacular. Instead of waiting for your muse to kick into gear, check out these sites that showcase a wide range of designs to get your creative juices flowing.

TheBestDesigns.com

Rather big collection, but tiny previews only. Every submitted site is tagged and by selecting a tag, you can see more sites of that category. Only after the click you’ll see an overview of all the tags on the left side. Ranking of the designer directory has to be taken with a grain of salt since the ranking reflects the amount of monetary donations to the site and has nothing to do with skills or quality of work.

The Best Designs

CreamyCSS.com

Very nice showcase. Ratings by users, unfortunately you can’t sort by it. But tags and categories are easily accessible through the left sidebar. Easy to navigate and find content.

Creamy CSS

Creattica.com

Part of the fantastic envato network. Collection ranges from 3d, business cards over CSS, Flash, Logos, Posters and much more. Not just for inspiration, but also to be in awe. No tags though, so you can only  click your way through.

Creattica

CSSclip.com

A little confusing at the first look, but when you scroll down, you have a lot of categories to choose from (color, style,  service).

CSSclip

CSSheaven.com

Not very huge gallery but easily accessible through tags and categories.

CSSheaven

CSSiphone.com

Something very special: mobile version of websites, suitable for display on the iPhone and other mobile devices.

CSSiPhone

CSSmania.com

Very high quality showcase of websites, neatly organized by time of submission and type of website (business, blogging, and even subcategories). Well worth browsing.

CSSmania

CSSremix.com

No tags, no categories, no way of sorting. Just straight showcase.

CSSremix

DeliciousCSS.com

Excellent showcase of high quality sites. You can pick sites by colors or by categories. And, just in case I didn’t mention it: really high quality sites. Easy to spend hours there.

DeliciousCSS

DesignBombs.com

Very nice showcase, easily to navigate by colors and topics (business sites, webdesign, portfolio, etc)

DesignBombs

theDesignInspiration.com

Covers a wide range of designs, from logos & illustration to websites, photos, patterns and fonts.

The Design Inspiration

DesignSnack.com

Not sorting here either, but high quality sites with the ability to save them and rate them.

DesignSnack

EduStyle.net

Something very specific: showcase of sites dedicated to education. You can not only search by tags, but you can search for specific schools as well. Definitely worth a look if you are designing for that sector.

eduStyle

Flickr

It wouldnn’t be Flickr if it wouldn’t have a gallery on inspirational web designs. Not as comfortable to navigate as the other sites and only tiny previews, but of course large exposure due to the size of the social network.

flickr

FullSingle.com

Gallery for single sites. Not all submitted sites do indeed consist of only one page, but it’s still a good starting point if you are looking for inspiration in that area. To actually see the gallery, click on the menu item “Archive” on the right.

FullSingle

MixCSS.com

Large gallery that you can browse by categories or just at random. Nice large preview images, the ability to rate and share a design as well as comment on it.

MixCSS

OnePageLove.com

Once more a site for single page websites (again, not all submissions are), but there are some really awesome design there to discover. Even better, there are extensive tags and categories that make browsing so much more fun.

One Page Love

Screenalicious.com

Huge archive (10,000+ screenshots), but unfortunately no comfortable way of browsing it. Once you click on a preview, you will have a color palette beneath the displayed screenshot. You can click on any color to call up sites using it as well, but that is about all there is for finding similar sites.

Screenalicious

WeLoveWP.com

As the name suggests, a showcase of really excellent Wordpress themes. Can be browsed by categories.
